The Eversons played at our first On the Road event out in Piha back in July. Newly arrived from their hometown Wellington – it was their first trip out West. Needless to say they were hooked and keen to come back for more Waitakere Festival action! We’re equally stoked to have them back.
The boys specialise in upbeat pop numbers with humorously dark bittersweet lyrics. In 2012 they released their debut album Summer Loving to great critical appeal. Featuring songs such as ‘Creepy’ about Mark worry if he is too affectionate towards his girlfriend to ‘Going back to Work, a song about how crap it is going back to work after a holiday, The Eversons capture all the highs and lows of being in your 20s packaged into s super catchy style of 90s indie-pop with traces of vintage Flying Nun – it’s got to be good!
Check out their new video for Marriage below :
Gosh by golly these boys are tight musically. Crisp guitars and harmonious vocals were clear and all last years sound issues seemed a distant memory, as the Eversons pumped out their brand of bipolar pop with such a self-assured energy that would have made the fab-four proud. An American in the crowd even remarked “It’s nice to see a NZ band unashamed of being poppy.” Hear hear.
